At the ARCI Rathaus club, the VR screenings of The Frame Beyond<\/i> continue, while at the Ricci Oddi there is a double feature: the first day of Concorto Kids from 4:30 pm (featuring workshops, a snack, and a screening), followed at 5:00 pm by a talk with Legambiente titled “One Water. From the Bottle to the Rivers, in a Changing Climate”<\/i>, which will be followed by a screening of the Supernature<\/i> films. All three events are part of “La Memoria dell’Acqua” (The Memory of Water) project, supported by the “Idee in Azione” call from the IREN – Piacenza Local Committee.<\/p>\n

At 9:00 pm we head over to Parco Raggio for the short films in competition; at 11:30 pm there is an unmissable concert with LOSTATOBRADO or, for the die-hards, a double screening in the greenhouse featuring Bodies of Melancholia<\/i> and Indie_Genous<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Algumas Coisas Que Acontecem Ao Lado De Um Rio (A Few Things Happening by a River) – Daniel Soares<\/span><\/h5>\n

A Portuguese fiction film presented in its Italian premiere at Concorto by Cannes Film Festival, Daniel Soares\u2019 work offers a subtle yet sharp critique of society. Through a detached and observational approach, the director questions the way we live in the present, crossing spaces, and ultimately existing in the world. At the centre of the film is a river and its banks, a silent witness to the small intruder that is humanity, welcoming its people onto its banks. Around its flow, different people and lives come and go: a group of teenagers, an elderly woman, two riders, and a father. Ages, social background,relationships,and worries vary, yet none of them seems to truly notice the river. There is always something calling them elsewhere. Society intrudes even into the spaces seemingly removed from the world, constantly reminding them of its commandments: to appear, to work, to produce, to serve. It is a collective illness so widespread that it has become almost invisible.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text text_direction=”default”]\n

Another Day in the Metal Box – Gleb Feldman

Another Day in the Metal Box<\/span><\/i> by Gleb Feldman tells the story of Borys, a young Ukrainian worker who dreams of becoming an actor.<\/span><\/p>\n

His monotonous life goes by between shifts at the factory, a beer at the bar, lunch breaks spent looking for auditions and news about the war between Russia and Georgia. It is a safe, stable life. Every time he tries to apply for an audition, he changes his mind: what\u2019s the point? It\u2019ll never happen.<\/span><\/p>\n

One day, however,he finds a weird cube\u00a0 in the factory where he works. He walks into it. What is waiting for him on the other side is everything he ever dreamed of: an acting career, a victorious Georgia, free from Russia, and the life he never thought would come true.<\/span><\/p>\n

The short film leaves us asking where reality ends and the dream begins, leaving us the task of tracing that boundary.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text text_direction=”default”]\n

On an aeroplane, a couple of scorpions sip wine while watching a reality show, as pilots, passengers, and airport staff\u2014all animals engaged in human activities\u2014move around them. At the duty-free shop, a mouse looks for a gift for his children; the shop assistant suggests a crocodile-skin handbag before showing him a flute crafted from the very last cypress tree on Earth. The End<\/i> builds an absurd, grotesque world in which animals take the place of human beings, even replicating the most destructive behaviours towards other species and the environment. The reality show, acting as an almost constant backdrop, accompanies a series of increasingly unsettling situations, until the airport empties completely. The now-deserted building appears to be the sole remaining site bearing witness to the end of everything.[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text text_direction=”default”]\n

Intersecting Memory – Shayma’ Awawdeh
\nAs seen by Vanessa Mangiavacca<\/em><\/span><\/h5>\n

Walter Benjamin wrote that “history decays into images, not into stories”. And it is precisely from the fragments of home and family videos recovered by director Shayma\u2019 Awawdeh that the historical narrative finds its lucidity and extreme cruelty once more, bringing to light in an evident and unassailable way the violence and injustice suffered by the Palestinian people. The recordings date back to the Second Intifada, when the director was just six years old: “My memory is blurry”, she confesses today. Yet while memories may be faded and fragmented, the images remain, in their profound cruelty and grief, to bear witness to what memory suppresses to protect itself from horror. Shayma\u2019 Awawdeh overlays an intimate dialogue with her mother onto the footage, attempting to evoke and piece together a personal memory that inevitably entwines with the collective one\u2014a memory that needs, every day, to be recalled, safeguarded, and shared.[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text text_direction=”default”]\n

Air Horse One – Lasse Linder

Legacy is a show jumping star, she always travels worldwide to take part in competitions, she is fed, taken care of and appreciated for her tame behaviour. Her owner jokingly talks about the privileged life her \u201cbaby\u201d lives on the phone. The director chooses to quietly film what happens in this extraordinary horse\u2019s everyday life without wanting the watcher to take pity on her, almost like he wanted to see the world through her eyes. He lingers on her eyes, shoots often her muzzle: Legacy observes, waits, it looks like she\u2019s thinking and listening to the conversations, and accepts with a quiet resigned attitude this hectic life that her owner has chosen for her.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text text_direction=”default”]\n

Lion Rock – Nick Mayow & Prisca Bouchet

How long does it take to go from being in the right to being in the wrong? According to Prisca Bouchet and Nick Mayow, the answer lies in the time it takes to change a song. After a day spent at the beach, a mother along with her son Sam\u2014who is angry after she forbade him from venturing along the trails of Lion Rock with his friends\u2014accidentally hits something without stopping to check who or what was involved. The short film is a crescendo of tension and suspicion, leading the viewer to imagine the most tragic scenarios, but above all to ask themselves: what would I do in their shoes? If the worst had happened, if what the mother describes as “just a branch” had been a human being, a flesh-and-blood life ending up beneath the car, how should one act? Because sometimes the right answer is not the desired one, and the wrong choice can leave you washing blood off your car in the middle of the night.[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text text_direction=”default”]\n

\u201cDo you still love me?\u201d asks the manager of a company to his wife, while his employees wait outside his office, and almost shouting says \u201cAnd why do you love me?\u201d. There\u2019s a need for love, true and authentic consideration for the other, physical contact that shows through every frame of this animated short movie. Many pictures and many lives that come together with something in common: insecurity. And from that comes out the heavily ironic, although bitter,\u00a0 element of employment.
