\nToday we inaugurate the screenings in the greenhouse at Palazzo Ghizzoni Nasalli<\/strong> (Vicolo Serafini n. 12,\u00a0Piacenza) at 6pm<\/strong> – free entry! Today\u2019s schedule will include the first part of Mirrors<\/strong><\/a>, a category of short\u00a0films dedicated to gender issues, find the reviews here.\u00a0Tonight at Parco Raggio an unmissable roster of short films will start with Pauline Asservie<\/strong>, a splendid\u00a0French comedy starring Ana\u00efs Demoustier as protagonist, a rising star who has already worked with\u00a0directors such as Ozon and Haneke. Let\u2019s continue with Intimity<\/strong>, a short film from Switzerland which\u00a0exposes the inner being of a woman, followed by La Persistente<\/strong>, an unusual and compelling postmodern\u00a0thriller. The short film Tiikeri<\/strong> takes us to Finland where a family drama depicted in a sweet and ironic way\u00a0unfolds; we\u2019ll also have the chance to delve into the topics tackled in the film with the help of Jarkko Lahti,\u00a0one of the actors who will be on stage with us tonight. Tonight\u2019s screenings in competition will end with\u00a0Peggie<\/strong>, a short film which will take us into the life of an old lady endowed with unique powers, and Cr\u00e8me\u00a0de Menthe<\/strong> a Canadian comedy recounting an intricate father-daughter relationship.
\nAt 11.30pm, in the greenhouse at Parco Raggio, don\u2019t miss the first part of WABI SABI Focus Japan<\/strong> (click\u00a0here for the reviews<\/a>) and two more short films from the experimental films\u2019 category UBIK<\/strong> (reviews at the\u00a0bottom of the page). Suis-je amoureux? Oui, puisque j\u2019attends.<\/em><\/p>\n

The quote from A Lover\u2019s Discourse: Fragments<\/em> by Roland Barthes introduces the short film. Just\u00a0like the French author, Pauline could be defined as a semiologist: she is in love with a married man\u00a0and spends her day – even when on vacation in the countryside – trying to interpret the signs\u00a0hidden in his text messages. Every word could be a trace of mutual love or definitive loss. As it\u00a0declares at one point, Pauline is a beautiful and smart woman, a true academic: she thinks she\u2019s\u00a0relying on her rationality, but she is actually a victim of her own obsession. Through a fast-paced\u00a0screenplay, the director shows the most narcissist, self-destructive and phantasmatic facet of love\u00a0and the devastating power that other people\u2019s words may have. Presented during the Semaine de\u00a0la Critique in Cannes, the film by Charline Bourgeois-Tacquet describes in an original way the\u00a0drama of this common yet painful situation typical of our times.[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]\n

Intimity – Elodie Dermange

In this animation short film, a controversial topic like porn is explained through an intimate act such\u00a0as showering.\u00a0A girl talks about herself, about how working in the domain of pornography, she managed to accept\u00a0her body. This sexual liberation turns into a long tale and being able to understand what makes us\u00a0feel good becomes a catharsis: inapprehensible for those who don\u2019t experience it but not for this\u00a0incommunicable.
\nThe evanescent and kaleidoscopic image gains communicative power which makes this short work\u00a0a little jewel dealing with concepts such as feeling free transcending the thoughts of others.[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]\n

La Persistente – Camille Lugan

Somewhere in the French Pyrenees Ivan and his motorcycle \u2013 the sentient, loving, breathing La Persistente<\/em> roam the treacherous mountain roads. Their peculiar, symbiotic charm catches the envious eye of his rival Victor, who violently seeks to tear them apart. Little does he know that their inseparable bond is too strong to be broken.
\nAn unconventional, yet perversely original story, straight from the official selection of Cannes Film Festival, about love and revenge, separation and reunion. Camille Lugan\u2019s unsettlingly gritty and mysterious cinematic style takes a leaf out of David Lynch\u2019s book, full of impulsive twists and violent paroxysms<\/p>\n

Tiikeri – Mikko Myllylahti

This Finnish short film, directed by Mikko Myllylahti, talks about a father who comes home drunk.\u00a0It talks about a mother who\u2019s waiting for him asleep on the couch and a tiger-daughter locked in\u00a0her room.\u00a0Talks about a quarrel and about the father picking up a rifle. Tiikeri<\/em> can be defined as modern black tale: the cold Finnish winter as well as the clean and\u00a0pragmatic direction create a narrative atmosphere in which the presence of the tiger-daughter can\u00a0fit in perfectly.\u00a0The dysfunctional familiar context becomes a unifying element as it leads the tiger-daughter to go\u00a0look for tigers like her, someone she can see herself in and with whom she can develop her own\u00a0individuality.\u00a0The neat and expressive gesture gains a dialogic value and the closing soundtrack (Future Island\u2019s\u00a0A Dream Of You and Me<\/em>, ndr) is the cherry on top of this Nordic masterpiece.[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]\n

Peggie \u2013 Rosario Capozzolo

Peggie<\/em> is a delicate short movie about senile dementia by Rosario Capozzolo, an Italian doctor\u00a0fond of cinema who tries to create a sort of empathy towards who suffers from it and who takes care of\u00a0them. The main character through her disease travels within a mosaic of\u00a0moments of her own life, wandering among the rooms of a house which recall moments\u00a0imprinted on her memory. The viewer sees everything from her own point of view and is\u00a0woken up to the actual reality unlike Peggie, whose mind keeps on drifting in space and time\u00a0while the surrounding reality takes care of her.[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]\n

Cr\u00e8me de menthe – Philippe David Gagn\u00e9 + Jean-Marc E. Roy

When her father, a hoarder, dies, his daughter Ren\u00e9e has to clean out his apartment: an onerous task\u00a0which she has to complete in just six days and will lead the girl to get to know her deceased parent better.\u00a0Piece by piece, Ren\u00e9e will question her relationship with her father by reliving the past, but also by\u00a0experiencing the present. In the \u201cempty\u201d house life goes on after death, as we can notice in the emblematic\u00a0scene of the cr\u00e8me de menthe<\/em>, in which even the presence of the dead persists. The two filmmakers gently\u00a0deal with a tragic subject with a hint of irony, leaving on the spectator\u2019s face a smile thinly veiled by\u00a0melancholy.[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]\n

Shadow Nettes – Phillip Barker

Shadows are never what they seem to be. Philip Barker, one of Canada\u2019s leading avant-garde directors and avid fisherman, was anonymously entrusted with the Shadow Nettes Manual by one of the few remaining Shadow Nette Fishers of the Erie Valley. This booklet, believed to be the only one in existence, details this traditional fishing device that projects the silhouette of the fisherman. The “fishr” assumes archetypal (and highly guarded secret) poses of virility that display their strength and ability. It is these projections that attract the innocent prey, drawing them close to be captured in nets.
\nDeeply inspired by this occult ritual, Barker delivers one visual jaw-dropper after another in this other-worldly film, clad in a Tarkovskian black and white and an eerie musical score following the story of a dark rite of passage.[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20″][vc_column_text]\n

Cadavre Exquis – St\u00e9phanie Lansaque e Fran\u00e7ois Leroy

Stephanie Lansaque and Fran\u00e7ois Leroy, the visionary directors of this animation, delight us with an\u00a0awesome journey among the maze-like streets unfolding in the ancient part of Hanoi. This journey is\u00a0balanced by the sense of the macabre on one pan of the scale and by the moving poetry characterizing the\u00a0narration on the other. Our guide during the journey is The one-eyed dog<\/em>, one of the many creatures\u00a0populating this universe bustling with loud busy people and animals of all species, both alive and dead;\u00a0the latter have lost their natural identity and they have simply become \u201cfood\u201d.\u00a0But The one-eyed dog<\/em> is here to perform a rite before the whole colorful animal kingdom. It\u2019s a rite\u00a0celebrating the sacredness of life and death, besides that of the species. This story awakens our ancient\u00a0hunting senses and brings us back to when food was a gift from the gods and when the gods themselves\u00a0were harbored in the hearts of our preys, in the trunks of the trees, in water and in the stars.
