But let’s go in order: at 5 PM at the Salone Amici dell’Arte in Piacenza, there will be a talk on “Archival Re-use,” starting with the Mnemosyne focus, followed by the screening of films from the Mnemosyne | Archivio Aperto focus at 6 PM.
At 9 PM at Parco Raggio in Pontenure, the films in competition will be screened, and at 10 PM, the live scoring of Tod Browning’s masterpiece *The Mystic* will take place, curated by Collettivo Soundtracks (Centro Musica di Modena) led by Roberta Sammarelli.
At 11:30 PM in the greenhouse, the second part of *Lessici Famigliari* will be shown, followed by a focus in collaboration with CineUnderground.

LA VOIX DES SIRÈNES – GIANLUIGI TOCCAFONDO

“La voix des Sirènes” is an animated short film by Gianluigi Toccafondo, characterised by a fluid and dreamlike animation that mixes surreal images with a visually poetic narrative. The director explores the theme of the irresistible and hypnotic lure of sirens through an immersive journey, where the line between dream and reality dissolves. Toccafondo uses his distinctive pictorial animation technique, with distorted figures and vibrant colours, creating an almost hypnotic sensory experience for the viewer. The short film succeeds in evoking profound emotions without the need for words, relying entirely on the power of the images and the driving rhythm of the music.
SOJOURN TO SHANGRI-LA – LIN YIHAN

Shangri-La is an imaginary, beautiful and distant place where everything is pleasing and achievable. A fashion photoshoot is in danger because a freak wave devastated the central installation of the photoshoot itself. Filmmaker Lin Tihan achieves an intimate proximity with the people involved in the fashion photoshoot by making one of the workers try to rediscover a piece with the use of a drone. The result is the feeling of wonder and calmness brought by nature during a human activity ruled by capital.
CITY OF POETS – SARA RAJAEI

The city of poets is an ideal city, a sought-after toponymy whose streets are connected through a large network of open-air biographies, where each street celebrates and pays homage to the art of Iranian poets. This ideal, utopian town is designed by walking from one poet to another and reciting poetry instead of providing addresses, germinating in the director’s imagination from a few childhood memories and the recollection of her grandmother’s house. Each street is a trace of the country’s national history, its recent past and its present, an accurate snapshot of the heritage that one decides to preserve and light up: and so, as society and the political state change, Sara Rajaei transforms the city of poets into the city of writers, athletes, and flowers, all the way to the city of martyrs at the end of the war. Through this allegory, one wonders if this city ever really existed as it is described: for the city that is evoked is also the city of women – children, girls, adults – as witnessed by family films and photographs of the past, an authentic sign of an Iran in which women were emancipated protagonists. Archival material is the key to escapism, which supports the imagery and desire for a colorful, free country that opens up numerous keys to interpretation. Authentic footage from everyday life shows even more tangibly the before and after of the war that forever changed the face of the Middle Eastern country, reminding us how everything is and remains, luckily, unarchivable.
