The week of Concorto is coming to an end and this year—perhaps more than in previous ones—it feels as though it has flown by in a heartbeat. A beautiful heartbeat filled with visions from all over the world, with images, minds, hopes, pain, and rebirth, sustaining us through the year that separates us from the next edition.
We thank you for following us, reading us each day, and for exploring with us the universe of Concorto Film Festival. Up next, as always, the Asinelli d’Oro, the prizes awarded by the editorial team of Asino Vola!
Today’s final events: at 4 pm, one last chance to experience VR with Hito Meikyu at Rathaus; at 6 pm, in the Amici dell’Arte Hall, the special screening of the project from the Futura Memoria workshop, led by Caterina Erica Shanta.
Then, everyone to Parco Raggio for the grand finale! At 8 pm dinner, at 9 pm the awards ceremony and screenings of the winning films. And from 11:30 pm in the Greenhouse: Concortissimo and CineUnderground.
See you in 2026—the donkey flies, and will keep on flying!
Grandma Nai Who Played Favorites (Chao Somnop Chet) – Chheangkea
Asinello d’oro di Alice De Vito
My Golden Donkey goes to the film Grandma Nai Who Played Favorites (Chao Somnop Chet), because it tackles a theme as important as it is delicate with an original gaze, capable of engaging different generations who—overcoming their differences—find themselves united by love.
The cinematography, both elegant and evocative, does more than frame the narrative: it amplifies the characters’ emotional states, making their vulnerability and inner strength almost palpable.
Samba infinito – Leonardo Martinelli
Asinello d’oro di Vanessa Mangiavacca
Every work by Leonardo Martinelli creates boundless visual and sensory tides: my Golden Donkey goes to Samba Infinito. It made me think of the word “counterpower”: stories of lives and bodies usually pushed to the margins take on absolute centrality in a brilliant and flamboyant way, becoming vessels of the many expressions of Brazilian culture. How alive short cinema is. Samba with love.
There are two other short films I would like to mention, for the simple and natural way they personally touched me, opening a small window onto the past and another onto the days to come: the animations Les Bottes de la nuit by Pierre-Luc Granjon and Fille de l’eau by Sandra Desmazières.
No skate! – Guil Sela
Asinello d’oro di Francesca Marchesini
I award my Golden Donkey to No Skate! for the authenticity and irony with which Guil Sela has been able to revisit and reinvent the auteur romantic comedy.
Sammi, Who Can Detach His Body Parts – Rein Maychaelson
Asinello d’oro di Virginia Marcolini
I chose to award the Golden Donkey to Sammi, Who Can Detach His Body Parts for its extraordinary ability to portray loss and absence through a language that blends the grotesque with tenderness. Through a body that fragments and gives itself away, the film makes absence tangible and physical, transforming a surreal metaphor into a universal emotional experience.
It is precisely in this tension—between the impossibility of wholeness and the acceptance of loss—that the film’s strength lies: in its ability to speak of what wounds us most with an inventive, delicate, and strikingly human language.
Autokar – Sylwia Szkiłądź
Asinello d’oro di Laura Savoini
The theme of immigration concerns us all, and always has. Sylwia Szkiłądź has managed to portray it in a tender, at times humorous, and never superficial way—telling reality through the lens of imagination.
Il burattino e la balena – Roberto Catani
Asinello d’oro di Serena Varrucciu
IL BURATTINO E LA BALENA( The Puppet and the Whale)
I appreciated this reinterpretation of Collodi’s fairy tale, and especially its animation, which effectively conveys this possible dark and unsettling future.
Special mention:
If I have to choose only among the films in competition, then I pick LE DIABLE E LA BICYCLETTE
If instead I can choose from all the films I saw, my mention goes to A BRIGHTER SUMMER DAY FOR THE LADY AVENGERS
Jour de vent – Martin Chailloux, Ai Kim Crespin, Elise Golfouse, Chloé Lab, Hugo Taillez, Camille
Truding
Asinello d’oro di Carola Visca
I award my Golden Donkey to Jour de Vent for the delicate gaze with which, in just a few minutes, it manages to trace profound human connections. Through the poetry of the wind, this little animated gem pays tribute to life and makes peace with death.
Agapito – Arvin Belarmino e Kyla Romero
Asinello d’oro di Anna Vullo
My Golden Donkey goes to Agapito for the effective way in which Arvin Belarmino and Kyla Danelle Romero succeed in portraying the Filipino community and the universal desire to spend quality time with our loved ones—through dialogue, choreography, and song. All of this, without ever leaving the bowling alley.
Mojappi – Nijitaro
Asinello d’oro di Virginia Carolfi
My Golden Donkey goes to Mojappi by Nijitaro, for depicting childhood without paternalism or false morals—and doing so in just three minutes while making you burst out laughing.
Special mention to Filante, because it is a wonderful film: from the story, to the illustrations, to the soundtrack. And I also want to mention Grandma Nai Who Played Favorites (Chao Somnop Chet) for the sweetness of its narrative and the delightful irony that runs through it.
